ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS:
1. Afrofusion with Anisha Thai & Clarisa: We’re kicking off the weekend with our two local Afro dance queens: Anisha Thai and Clarisa. They will be leading us through some foundational grooves from different Afro street styles, followed by a fun fusion choreo to tie it all together.
2. Ndombolo with Sandra : Come learn the foundations of ndombolo from Kongo, with our special guest instructor from Paris, Sandra! This style of dance is derived from older styles like soukous and Congolese rumba and has heavily influenced many other modern African street styles. It’s known for its signature waistline groove (called loketo) and the infectious party energy that it brings– so get your hips ready!
3. Kizomba with Ezra: Come join our local kizomba sensation Ezra to try out kizomba, the social dance originating from Angola that has taken the world by storm. It’s no wonder it has: this deceptively simple looking partner dance is all about connection and being present, elements that can be applied in any other style as well as your freestyle. Ezra will break down the basics as well as lead some fun games to help you understand the foundations of kizomba, and end the class with a 30-min practica so you can get a taste of social dancing in a party setting. Come with an open mind and be ready to make new friends!
4. Coupe Decale with Daniel: Coupe decale is an energetic, fast-paced style created in the early 2000s in Paris by Ivorian immigrants. It’s all about showing off your personal style and swagger, and impressing those around you with your moves and footwork. Our renowned guest instructor, Daniel coming all the way from Korea, will lead you through the foundation grooves and steps, and end the class with a choreo to challenge you.
5. Cuban Salsa with Franky Salsaman: Cuban salsa is a style of salsa partner dancing known for its fun party vibe and being danced in a big group with frequent partner-switching and humorous moves. Franky our Hong Kong salsa expert will be leading you through a lively introduction class where you will learn all the basics you need to salsa like a true Cuban! This will be the perfect opportunity to unwind and socialize before the excitement of our battle and party that will conclude the weekend.
