BIM (Building Information Modelling) is bringing significant changes to design, construction and operations over the lifecycle of projects. It has the potential to transform the whole process from inception, design, and construction through to operations and facilities management. Both public and large private developers are increasingly looking for their consultants to be BIM-enabled.

The course will support those starting their BIM journey in the surveying profession. It covers what is BIM, how it achieves collaboration and integration, BIM commercial and contract, ISO19650, and how to effectively address the BIM challenge from process, people and technology perspectives. In addition, case studies will be used to explain the different purposes of BIM, its benefits and challenges, and how it has been adopted in design, construction and facilities management (FM).

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the concepts of BIM implementation and management from a multidisciplinary perspective
  • Demonstrate awareness of BIM execution plans and maturity models
  • Describe the legal and commercial implications involving BIM
  • Introduce the emerging BIM technologies including their applications in design, construction and FM

Course Structure

  • What is BIM, its benefits and challenges, strategy and targets, and BIM implementation strategies.
  • Group exercises and examples from real-life BIM scenarios.
  • Case studies on BIM application in Design and Construction

Who should attend?

The training is designed for those who are starting their BIM journey and would like to have an overview of the BIM concept including implementation strategies, and BIM’s adoption in design and construction.
