Initiative for Peace @LPCUWC

Initiative for Peace (IFP) is a student initiative at Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong (LPCUWC). Originally created in 2001 at Singapore's UWC South East Asia, IFP inspired students at LPCUWC to form a similar initiative in 2005. Our fundamental belief is that conflicts are inevitable, but they can be managed before escalating into more serious forms. This is done by reflecting on different ways of accommodating differences; hence, violence can be avoided on personal, regional or international levels. Our group works in three different scopes:

  • conflict management activities within our school;
  • facilitation of learning activities for Hong Kong students; and
  • organization of annual peace education events for a diverse audience.

The main objective is to educate and train young adults to identify the root causes of conflict in order to be able to manage, improve, maintain, and promote peace in different communities.
