Dr. Laura Nieminen
My name is Dr. Laura Nieminen, and I am a medical doctor currently working in a Finnish clinic called Etälääkäri, where I focus on telemedicine and digital patient care. Over the years, I have come to believe that healthcare should not only be effective and evidence-based, but also accessible, flexible, and adapted to the realities of modern life. Telemedicine has allowed me to practice medicine in a way that removes unnecessary barriers between doctor and patient.
I completed my medical training in Finland and began my career in traditional clinical settings, working in both public healthcare centers and private practices. Those early years gave me strong clinical foundations and a deep respect for face-to-face patient care. However, I also witnessed how often patients delayed seeking medical advice due to scheduling challenges, long travel distances, or simple hesitation.
My transition into telemedicine was not accidental — it was a conscious decision driven by a desire to improve access to care. At Etälääkäri, I work with patients remotely through secure digital consultations, helping them address a wide range of medical concerns efficiently and safely. Telemedicine allows me to focus on what truly matters: listening carefully, assessing thoroughly, and guiding patients with clarity.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is seeing how digital healthcare empowers patients. Many people feel more comfortable discussing sensitive topics from the privacy of their home. Others appreciate the time saved by avoiding travel and waiting rooms. For families with children, busy professionals, and individuals living in remote areas, telemedicine offers a practical solution that aligns with modern lifestyles.
Throughout my career, I have developed particular interest in preventive medicine, chronic condition management, and patient education. Telemedicine provides unique tools for these areas. Digital consultations encourage structured conversations, follow-up continuity, and written communication that patients can revisit afterward. I find that this often strengthens patient understanding and engagement.
Beyond clinical practice, I actively follow developments in digital health innovation, regulatory frameworks, and ethical standards in remote care. It is important to me that telemedicine is not simply convenient, but also responsible, secure, and medically sound. Technology must support clinical judgment — never replace it.
As a physician, I believe that trust remains the foundation of healthcare, whether the consultation takes place in a traditional office or through a digital platform. Establishing rapport through a screen requires attentiveness, empathy, and clear communication. Over time, I have learned that meaningful doctor–patient relationships can absolutely be built in virtual settings.
Personally, I am deeply motivated by the idea that healthcare can evolve without losing its human dimension. I am passionate about helping patients feel informed and supported in their decisions. Medicine is not only about diagnosis and treatment; it is about guidance, reassurance, and partnership.
At this event, I will be sharing my professional perspective on the convenience and practical advantages of telemedicine. I will discuss how digital consultations work, what patients can expect, and why telehealth has become an increasingly important part of modern healthcare systems. My goal is to provide clarity, address common misconceptions, and demonstrate how telemedicine can fit naturally into everyday life.
I look forward to welcoming you and exploring together how healthcare can become more accessible, efficient, and patient-centered in the digital age.
