UX Research 101- Learn how to effectively plan and conduct Qualitative User Research for UX Design Projects 


The workshop will cover:

    • Reason to believe: Why talk to users? What value does it really bring ?

    • Steps to plan qualitative user research

  • Methods of contextual interviews and intercepts

  • A real case study of a retail shopping experience of a mall

Here’s a little prep to do before hand, to make the most out of this workshop (it’s quite simple and hopefully enjoyable)

Preparation: Visit the nearest big mall and spend at least an hour observing people, messaging, signage, & digital assets (mall website, app, in-store kiosks etc) of the mall.

Things to look for:

  • Who are these people walking around in the mall? Shoppers? just passerbys? families? youngsters?

  • What are people doing in the mall ? What are they looking for and how are they finding their way to their destination?

  • How is the mall "talking" to the people? How is information being provided?

  • Any obvious issues/problems in the services provided in the mall.

That’s it! Come with an open mind and some thoughts to share.

Madhura's Bio 


Madhura's currently:

1.Working with Google team in HK, on a very interesting UX role that's unlike most UX roles - looking at the intricacies of developer experiences using Google Play products
2. Teaching the UX Design - part time course @General Assembly HK
3. Consulting with Estee Lauder Company with Digital UX Training needs.

Before this, she's been working in the UX research+strategy field for over 10 years, primarily on consumer insights led projects to design user experiences - physical and digital - mostly a mix of both.

She has led teams for launching new brands of products + services to the market , working across all the touch points of the user experience including:
promotional events and marketing, product development, e-commerce website, retail environments & staff training.

Expertise: Qualitative and Quantitative research methods, User testing and prototyping, Conducting cross-teams workshops, Product and Space design, dealing with people across different cultures, skillsets, ranks and roles.
