Agung, a master from Central Java with over 40 years of experience in court and mask dance, has been continuously exploring breakthroughs in performance by bridging contemporary and traditional ideas of body awareness. In this short performance, he collaborates with seasoned Hong Kong butoh artist Vinci Mok, presenting a duet with Javanese masks—sculpted artifacts imbued with the natural energy of the earth.
Two Eastern dance spirits unite. Both dance forms embody a sense of animalistic movement, spiritual expression, and introspective awareness. Accompanied by traditional chanting, distorted flows, and synchronized breaths, witness how this performance becomes a transformative ritual—an homage to time and life through the art of "changing faces."
