What makes a life story compelling on the page? In this practical and insightful workshop, award-winning writer Liam Pieper guides participants through the craft of memoir, exploring how to shape lived experience into sharp, resonant narrative. Drawing on his work across fiction, nonfiction, and biography, Pieper examines voice, structure, ethics, and the fine line between honesty and exposure. Through discussion and targeted exercises, writers will learn how to move beyond anecdote, sharpen perspective, and find the story beneath the memory. This session is ideal for all ages of emerging and experienced writers seeking clarity, confidence, and craft in personal writing.

About the Speaker:

Liam Pieper

Liam Pieper is an Australian Book Industry Award-winning ghostwriter of global bestsellers as well as more modest successes with his name on the cover. He was recipient of the 2014 M Literary Award, winner of the 2015 Geoff Dean Short Story Prize and the 2016 Christina Stead Fiction Award, the inaugural creative resident of the UNESCO City of Literature of Prague, and the 2018 National Library of Australia Creative Arts Fellow for Australian Writing. The Feel-Good Hit of the Year, his memoir, was shortlisted for the National Biography Award and the Ned Kelly Best True Crime award.
