WHAT is S.H.E

A program for her by her.

S.H.E – Sports, Health, Empowerment, is a program designed for female empowerment in sport. S.H.E will use sport as a tool to bring together two groups of women - teenagers and young adults - and over the course of several months, these two groups will engage in fun and exciting sporting activities as well as meaningful and thought-provoking workshops.

The ultimate purpose of S.H.E is for women and girls to come together and have fun, learn, share, discover, discuss and establish and form relationship and connections.

As well as this, S.H.E will:

  • create a safe space for women and girls to discuss issues on Acceptance, Mental Health, Social Media, Nutrition & Health (Body image) (periods), The Future
  • allow women and girls to learn new skills through new sports together- allow women and girls to discover the power of their minds and bodies
  • allow women and girls to learn, grow and empower together
  • provide visible role models of women in sport for girls
  • give girls the opportunity to speak to working women to whom sport is an important tool in their life right now for growth, strength and self-love
  • give girls the opportunity to see the benefits of sport in ‘real’ examples across multiple different levels
  • allow women to offer their support, mentorship and guidance to teenage girls through sport and workshops, create trusting partnerships and share their experience and knowledge

HOW will S.H.E work

Women and girls who join S.H.E. can join all our sessions over the course of 5 months (1 session per month).

In each two-hour session, you will participate in a sporting activity followed by a workshop/discussion on a relevant topic.

Target group for S.H.E

  • Secondary school female students aged 13 – 18 in Hong Kong of all backgrounds
  • Working, female professions involved in sport at any level

(depending on numbers and age group, this will be on a first-come-first serve).

Confidentiality and safe space

Our S.H.E sessions will allow for:

  • Fun and enjoyment through the participation of a new and exciting activity
  • Raw and real conversations in a safe space.
  • Communication: listening, advice, personal anecdotes, conflict resolution
  • Education on health: both physical (nutrition and exercise) and mental
  • Managing emotions: handling stress, controlling emotions
  • Exploration of self-love: self-esteem, acceptance of self and others, body image, mindfulness
  • Exposure to careers and journeys from women who have been there done that

WHY S.H.E

Participating in sport as a teen can provide a fantastic foundation for adult life; the benefits stretch far beyond physical. On top of facilitating sports participation, S.H.E will deliver meaningful discussions and advice that can aid at a key stage of a woman’s life – the teenage years.

The struggles women go through rarely have an age limit. They begin in our teenage years, and more often that not stay with us through many of our adult years. These issues range from body image, confidence, periods, self-love, and relationships to emotions.

We believe that by providing high school girls with visible role models (working and professional women who use sport to be their best self) is a huge advantage. Through sport and discussions, S.H.E will allow young girls to develop life and coping skills that better equip them for the future.

We must allow girls to see that women have shared their struggles, concerns, thoughts and feelings; they’ve been, and continue to be, experienced and felt by other women and girls. We must also allow girls to see that sport can help women navigate issues. It is important that teenage girls know they are not alone in these struggles and there are women that have gone through exactly the same things.
