Nest alongside Merck & Make-IT in Africa will be hosting the 8th edition of the #WhatsGood series on 30th October from 6 pm to 8.30 pm at Mettā Nairobi.

The event will be a broad discussion aimed at answering the question: How is data accelerating progress in health care?

Topics set for discussion include:

1. The importance of big data in global health.

2. Challenges and solutions in the use of data in the health care system.

Panelists on the day will include:

Dr.Vanessa Kithyoma - Dr Vanessa Kithyoma currently serves as the Chief Operations Officer at mHealth Kenya. She holds a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Nairobi and a MBA in Healthcare Management from Strathmore University. She has worked in the Kenyan healthcare sector for more than fifteen years in both clinical and managerial areas.

She sits in several mulit-stakeholder working groups and committees including the ICT Technical Working Group for the Ministry of Health, the Ebola Virus Disease Response Technical Working Group among others. Her work in ICT for Health has seen her contribute to policy formulation including the Kenya e-health policy and mHealth Standards and Guidelines.

Sathy Rajasekharan - Sathy Rajasekharan is the Chief Innovation Officer at Jacaranda Health, and oversees development of innovative tools, research projects, and public sector and academic partnerships, with the aim of leveraging Jacaranda’s expertise and insight to influence maternal healthcare in East Africa.

Prior to joining Jacaranda Health, Sathy was a Senior Program Manager for the Drug Access and Health Financing teams of the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), and led CHAI’s work providing technical assistance to the Swaziland Ministry of Health.

Hugo Winn - Hugo leads Growth at Flare 'the Uber for Ambulances', based in Nairobi. Previously Hugo helped establish the Growth & Data team at what3words, a London based micro-addressing company that went on to become the official addressing solution for over 50 million people.

Dr. Njeri Mwaura- She is an Award- Winning Public health specialist and a Rockefeller fellow on social innovation with over 17 years’ experience in the health sector. She is currently working for the World Bank Group as a Senior Health Specialist, on Health Programs in the African Region with wide experience and in-depth knowledge of the public and private sectors in Africa and other emerging markets.

She has extensive technical expertise, knowledge and experience in leading and implementing policy, regulatory and health systems reforms and their replication/ scale up nationally, regionally and internationally e.g. Kenya Health Act 2017 influenced the Nigeria Health Act; a regulatory framework for quality of care and patient safety piloted and scaled up in Kenya and adopted/replicated in Uganda and Mali; Managed Equipment Scheme a transformative $500m PPP in Kenya a first in Africa now being replicated across the region.

The conversation will be moderated by

Chris Orwa- A data scientist with 7-year experience solving problems in various organizations. Currently works at I&M Bank as the lead data scientist. He previously held the positions of Data Scientist at Safaricom, Head of Data Science Brave Venture Labs and Lead, Data Science at iHub.
