About this event
Join wildlife photographer and author Adam Francis (A Field Guide to the Snakes of Hong Kong, A Field Guide to the Turtles of Hong Kong) and www.hongkongsnakeid.com on an exhilarating evening safari in the New Territories in search of wildlife! Suitable for adults and children (must be over the age of 8 and able to manage a 3-hour walk). Get ready for: a relatively easy evening walk through a country park; wildlife spotting including, if luck has it, of some of Hong Kong’s native herpetofauna (reptiles and amphibians); a demonstration of wildlife photography techniques; expert discussion on Hong Kong’s snake and turtle species, their behaviours and unique position in the local ecosystems. Additional information will be shared with confirmed participants. Limited to 8 people, no more than one child to one accompanying adult.
Adam Francis is a naturalist and wildlife photographer. He created the website, www.hongkongsnakeid.com in response to the increasing number of Hong Kongers exploring the many country parks and trails across Hong Kong and taking an interest in our local wildlife. His 2021 book, A Field Guide to the Snakes of Hong Kong, became an instant success due to its excellent photographs and documentation of these wild animals and their place in our ecosystem. Francis’s daughter, Eleanor Francis, is a student at Hong Kong International School and an avid wildlife enthusiast. She is also an early entrepreneur with a keen eye for design. She is the Co-Producer of Francis’s latest book, A Field Guide to the Turtles of Hong Kong.
About the organiser
The Hong Kong International Literary Festival (HKILF), founded in 2000, is an annual event held over ten days in autumn, featuring established and emerging writers from around the world in a programme that includes discussions, literary lunches and dinners, workshops, lectures, debates, book signings, and readings.
The stellar list of past HKILF authors includes literary luminaries such as Seamus Heaney, Louis de Bernières, Colm Tóibín, Jung Chang, and Yann Martel.
HKILF is organized and coordinated by Hong Kong International Literary Festival Limited, a non-profit, charitable literary arts organization which also manages the annual Young Readers Festival.
HKILF brings writers and book lovers together at events that allow them to share ideas.
Hong Kong is uniquely positioned to attract not just the best authors and thinkers in Asia, but globally. The city that built itself on the exchange of goods, is now also the region’s focal point for the exchange of ideas.
Literature makes us think, it gives us new perspectives. HKILF starts conversations that build a better society.
