Seminar overview

"Today art is widely considered to be one of the safest and most sold forms of investment. Most importantly, it is non-market correlated, allowing art to keep its value outside of the turbulent financial markets." by Jonathan Macey, CEO of Macey & Sons.

Join us at this Macey & Sons' private gallery tour for a delightful afternoon to appreciate a selection of art and antiques. Further your knowledge in the valuing and appraisal process of art and antiques and learn the importance of diversifying your investment portfolio.

Our Guest speaker, Dr Susan Cooke, will also share with the basic practices of fine art and antique valuation by sharing a wide variety of objects as examples, such as art and collectibles.

Refreshments will be provided.

Presenter

Dr Susan Cooke
Doctorate of Art History and History, University of Exeter

Dr Susan Cooke is a classically trained object-based art historian with a broad academic knowledge spanning many stylistic eras of fine art and antiques. Although she specializes in the field of antiquity, with particular focus on the Ancient Mediterranean, Dr. Cooke has developed curriculum and taught a wide range of courses, studying Modern and Contemporary Art, Architecture and Interior Design, Aesthetics and Criticism, and Islamic and Asian Art. In her approach to fine art and antiques, she emphasizes both the context and the history of the object, noting stylistic continuity as well as innovative design. Using an interdisciplinary approach, Dr. Cooke combines art history, history, archaeology, mythology, theory, and theology, and applies multicultural interpretations to art, architecture and antiques.

Having benefitted from an international graduate experience, Dr. Cooke has been a Professor of Art History in Virginia, South Carolina, Bahrain, Qatar, and Hong Kong. She has travelled extensively, experiencing various types of material culture, which has informed her research interests and honed her research skills. Her education, work history and travels have provided her amply opportunities to garner much global knowledge of fine art and antiques.
