Event description
This webinar is the fourth in a 5 part series focusing on practical strategies for teaching phonics to young children.

About this Event

Phonics is an essential foundation for writing and reading amongst young children, children with EAL and especially those in the early years. We would like to share our knowledge and experience with teachers who are beginning to teach phonics or need support to extend or modify their teaching.

In this webinar we will cover how to support children in becoming more independent in their use of phonics; how to let them make mistakes and gain confidence with writing. We will cover segmenting vs blending, phonics for reading, and moving beyond phonics to reading and understanding.

In the session we will use video examples from children in school and from virtual provision. The teaching schemes that we refer to are Read Write Inc. Phonics and Letters and Sounds.

This webinar will be led by Anastassja Fletcher and Clare Cunningham.

Anastassja and Clare are both teachers at Nord Anglia International School Early Years Preschool Campus in Sai Kung.

Anastassja completed her PGCE in 2011. She has been an Early Years teacher in London, Dubai and Hong Kong and has experience of teaching phonics within EAL. She is a year group leader and has experience of successfully leading phonics teaching both in school and online.

Clare graduated from the University of Glasgow, Scotland with a BEd in Primary Teaching in 2001 and specialises in teaching Reception and Year 1. She is trained in Jolly Phonics and has been involved in raising Literacy standards within all of the schools that she has taught in. Currently, she is a Reception teacher and enjoys delivering fun and engaging Phonics programmes that enable children to learn to become successful readers and writers.
