It’s Not About You: Group Improvisation workshop with Jerold Chu
Following last year’s Free Jazz workshop, Jerold returns for another interactive session at UNHEARD, this time exploring group improvisation, where you are invited to participate with your instruments or just sit and listen along. Musicians of all types, genres and levels are welcome.
Music making is often a process that is held back by feelings of pride and self doubt. In this safe space, through a series of guided exercises, you will be invited to experiment and find the possibilities within you when you try to connect, rely and trust in the ensemble. You may surprise yourself!
JEROLD CHU:
Since returning to Hong Kong in 2020, Jerold Chu has taken his experience working with UK bands and artists to quickly establish himself as a keyboard player, band leader and producer in the city. His adaptability, energy and love for different styles of music has allowed him to immerse himself in a variety of musical and artistic projects all around the world, collaborating with artists such as Jill Vidal, Novel Fergus and Moon Tang, as well as commercial brands like Clockenflap, the HK Rugby Sevens, Audemars Piguet, K11, Pacific Place and Tatler.
His own project, “Jerold and Friends” started in 2021 as a platform to showcase his own brand of infectious grooves, passionate musicianship and catchy original melodies. Over the years he has been invited to perform at music festivals such as Clockenflap, Music Lab Festival and Freespace Jazz Fest, injecting a fun, vibrant and exciting energy to the local instrumental music scene. The group’s 2024 debut album is now available for streaming on all major music platforms.____________
