Overview

Given Hong Kong’s size, population density and terrain, town planning in the city presents an array of unique characteristics and challenges. Sustainable development is also increasingly becoming a concern all over the world, and so it is as important as ever for industry and city leaders to set a positive example for all.

In this seminar, Ms. Maggie CHIN, Chief Town Planner/Technical Services, Planning Department, HKSAR Government will offer an insider perspective on the nature of town planning work and responsibilities among planners in the Planning Department. Moreover, she will address the following topics:

  • Hong Kong's basics and planning system
  • Strategic planning and land supply for sustainable growth: Hong Kong Planning Standards and Guidelines, and Hong Kong 2030+
  • Statutory planning under the Town Planning Ordinance: Town Planning Board, types of statutory plan and the plan making process
  • Planning application system with types of application, processing procedure, guidelines and some examples
  • Case studies (e.g. large-scale rezoning, how lands are being converted to column 2 use under s16 application)

Delegates will learn about the government’s town planning initiatives in detail, the Planning Department’s day-to-day experience, and ultimately be better informed as surveyors about how to work or collaborate with the government in future. There will also be opportunity for Q&A.
