Event description
An one-hour workshop to know the history behind some of the rarest typewriters and even have the opportunity to type on them.

About this Event

Jiksap collects items that carry stories from the past. We believe in designs that age well with time and appreciate the traces of living that these items bear. Through reimagining their possibilities, we hope to connect them with new owners and redefine them beyond their age.

re : type showcases a selection of typewriter dating from early to late 20th century. As one of the most widely used commercially manufactured machines from the late 19th century, typewriters represent the evolution of global communication.

The visible mechanical parts and the mechanism behind each typewriter reminds us of the physical gestures of communication - something that may have became trivial in modern days. Typewriter designs also portray the developmental progress of mechanical machines, reflecting the trends and needs of different eras, and paving way for the advancement of modern technology.

As typewriters are becoming more obsolete, the revolution that they have brought is also being gradually forgotten. Through this exhibition, we hope to rediscover the beauty of these great machines and reimagine the possibilities they can bring to our daily lives.

During the workshop, you will get to know the history behind each exhibit typewriter and have the opportunity to get your hands on them.

You will be instructed on how to operate your selected typewriter and type out a special letter or carefully crafted text of your choice.
