About this event

So what is this Move Partners class?

Group Mat Pilates is often described as a low-impact exercise routine performed on a mat. Through each rep and each exercise, focus is placed on core strength, flexibility and body awareness as students explore their movement capabilities.

This class will focus on a holistic whole body approach to Pilates, with mat-based exercises designed to stretch and strengthen the whole body. From core work, to back strengthening and side bending, this class will teach you about spinal mechanics and its fundamentals to movement. We will also go through breathing techniques and mechanics to help assist you as you move, as learning how to utilise the breath is such an important, foundational part to a Pilates practice. Through detailed instruction and guidance, the aim is to have you walking out feeling refreshed, stretched, energised and having learnt something new about your body, or Pilates as a whole. This class is designed for beginners who are new to Pilates principles, or practitioners who want to refresh their understanding through an anatomical, educational lens.

Suitable for all levels, with modifications and variations offered to accommodate all participants.

We aim to make fitness for mental health accessible in Hong Kong. That’s why we offer places in our classes for free for those experiencing financial hardship.

Your purchased ticket will include snacks from Live Zero. Your donation will be ‘paying it forward’ and helping us cover the rental cost of the studio space. This will provide spaces in our movement classes for someone facing financial hardship and continue to support our Move Partners programs and other support groups. $120 (Tier 1) donation will allow us to provide someone with one month of free peer support $250 (Tier 2) will allow us to offer someone support beyond their first month of peer support.

We want everyone to have access to the support they need, regardless of their identity or circumstance.

Please note we will be hosting our classes at Yoga Lane Studio 1 (down the stairs to the right from High street, not on High street.)

So who are we?

Move Partners

Taking part in physical activity can improve mental health in many ways; better sleep, happier moods, managing stress, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts, improved self-esteem, and connection to the community, to name a few.

Move Partners is a collaborative project between The New Normal Charity and organisations, professionals, and athletes. We aim to reinforce the connection and the importance of moving to help support our mental health.

Vivian Fong (@pilatesbyvivian)

Vivian is a comprehensively trained and matwork certified Pilates teacher, currently teaching in Singapore. Having previously lived in Hong Kong for 20+ years, she is excited to be guest teaching with TNN HK. In addition to Pilates, she is also RYT-800 hour Yoga Certified and NASM Personal Training certified, giving her a holistic understanding of the human body and movement. She aims to draw the lines between all disciplines of movement to guide individuals through movement safely. In addition to movement, she also has a passion for mental health empowerment and advocacy and believes that the effects of mindful movement can greatly impact one’s mental health.
