The Role of BEAM Plus in Building a Sustainable Hong Kong
Event Information
Description
BEAM Plus is Hong Kong's standard for rating of green buildings. Initiated by the private sector in 1996, the standard has gradually gained acceptance by both the public and private sectors. As of today, about half of the private sector building projects are participating in BEAM Plus assessment, mainly due to the government's policy to incorporate the assessment as one of the prerequisites for obtaining gross floor area (GFA) concessions. To keep pace with technological and societal developments, a revamped version of the new building rating tool has been developed whereas the government is also reviewing the GFA concession mechanism. In the light of these developments, the speaker will share with the audience the role of BEAM Plus in building a sustainable Hong Kong and how this is likely to evolve in the future.
