Event overview

The RICS Valuation – Professional Standards (the Red Book) are the mandatory standards that all valuers must adhere to. This course will provide you with the essential skills you need to effectively interpret the Red Book Standards and put them into practice. Through a series of practical case studies, you will see how the Standards can be applied in different scenarios and the courses of action you will need to take.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

• Apply the Red Book Standards in practice
• Fulfill client requirements in accordance with the Red Book Standards
• Demonstrate to current and potential clients that your work meets the industry recognized Standards of best practice and excellence
• Produce valuation reports in accordance with Red Book Standards

Course Content

The course has been designed to follow the structure of the Red Book and includes practical valuation issues. The course will include short lectures, group discussion and group exercises.

About the Trainer

Ms Shana Lam is a Senior Director who oversees the Rating and Taxation Division of CBRE Limited. She undertakes and co-ordinates reviews of valuation-based statutory assessments (principally rates and Government rent assessments) and objects on behalf of clients, where appropriate. Other than rating and taxation valuation, she also engages in rent reviews and valuation assignments for litigation purposes, with a
focus on acting as an expert witness. She graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Master’s Degree in Real Estate, and is a member of both the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

As a Chartered Surveyor with over 15 years’ experience, Shana has acted for many of Hong Kong’s leading ratepayers, and has advised on rating assessments in excess of HK$50billion in rateable value and government rent. Her clients include many multi-national corporations with properties in a range of classes including commercial buildings, retail arcades, theme parks, tunnels, telecommunication networks, car parks, cargo logistic terminals and petrol filling stations.
