The Power of Play: Fostering Creative Environments in the Age of AI

The Power of Play: Fostering Creative Environments in the Age of AI

By Press Start Studios

Overview

Eat, drink, play, and brainstorm ways to foster creative, communicative, and collaborative environments in our homes and classrooms!

How will the rise of AI affect how we teach and develop the next generation? How can our children and students continue to practice those skills that make us human, while understanding the role that technology will play in our lives and in society?

Press Start Studios is excited to team up with two experts on this topic to host an experiential evening of play and discussion - so we can eat, drink, play, and brainstorm ways to take new ideas and inspirations back to our homes and classrooms.

What's on the menu:

  • Analogue play: We start with an abridged version of our creative storytelling card game, Fiero!, led by its designer and Founder of Games for Change Hong Kong Vince Siu as an example of how games and game-like environments can help build confident self-expression - if we set the context, facilitate, and model right.
  • Tech and play: Tech entrepreneur, educator, and super-dad Kevon Cheung demonstrates Chatty Bestie, his home-baked AI experiment that places technology as a peer and supporter in his own parenting journey that has helped open up his daughters to express themselves.
  • Meta play: Founder of #play14 Singapore and Co-founder of Teach the Future Singapore Carol Lim shows how play helps children and adults alike build the agency, creative confidence and life skills they need to flourish as humans and thrive in the desired futures they imagine, drawing from her roles as a corporate trainer, design futures educator and mum of four playful boys.
  • And in between and after these quickfire sessions, you will be putting your heads and hands together to share your own insights, thoughts, and takeaways.

AI simultaneously presents both a compelling opportunity and a daunting challenge, especially in how we look at education and parenting. Let's play our way to making sense of what we can do to be "Bettr" educators, parents, and role models ourselves!

Note: This is a free event, as we're excited to welcome as many people into this conversation as possible. As a token of thanks to our wonderful venue sponsors Bettr Coffee, we ask that all participants purchase at least a drink (and hopefully a bite too!) from their delectable menu of offerings when arriving onsite. And if your plans change after registering, please update your RSVP. This helps us open your spot to another educator or parent keen to join.Thank you in advance!
