Introduction / Background

The Justice Conference Asia is in association with the very successful Justice Conference currently in it’s third year in the United States. The Asia regional conference is designed to draw attention to and support the many fine churches, NGO’s and organizations working in the justice field in Asia. Many of them work under difficult circumstances with few resources, to bring compassion, hope and justice to the people who are denied justice; who are overlooked; and who have no voice of their own. The conference will cover many fields such as poverty relief, sex trafficking, hunger, gender abuse, micro-finance, social enterprise, fair trade, religious persecution etc. Our overall theme for this year is “Restoring Beauty” and we hope that this conference will bring encouragement to those workers as well as a forum for them to interact with others in their field. The conference will also be aimed at encouraging Asian pastors to turn their churches towards causes for justice in this part of the world. We believe justice sits at the very heart of God’s kingdom as a tangible expression of his influence on earth. Our heart is to see churches in this part of the world embrace this heart and move God’s mercy forward.

The Vine Church (www.thevine.org.hk) is a multi-cultural, inter-denominational church based in Hong Kong, China with a passion for social justice as part of the outworking of the Kingdom of God. Out of this has developed an increasing desire to provide both forums and platforms for the advocacy and advancement of justice related causes and initiatives within Asia.Through a strategic partnership with The Justice Conference currently being run in the US (www.thejusticeconference.com), this conference will facilitate conversation and engagement with justice from both a biblical and practical standpoint, relevant for those working within the NGO sector as well as pastors, church planters and missionaries.

Aims and Objectives

The conference is designed to achieve the following:

1.     Encouragement to the many Christians working in difficult or isolated circumstances in SE Asia in the Justice arena

2.     Encouragement to churches in SE Asia to work for justice in their own social environment

3.     Excellent theological grounding for justice

4.     Practical advice and experience for and from those working on the front line

Format

The conference will take place over three nights and two days and will consist of 6 main sessions and parallel workshops led by keynote speakers and ‘on the ground’ practitioners. As well as speakers from across the globe and Asia, we will focus on the arts and their role in Social Justice advancement, partnering with key performers and filmographers, providing a platform to showcase their work /art.
