About this event

The world's workplaces are changing rapidly and a new set of work skills including STEAM is required.

STEAM is the abbreviation for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math. It’s an integrated approach to learning that encourages thinking more broadly about real-world problems. In this event, we are discussing the importance and social impact of STEAM on society.

Speaker includes:

  • Renee Boey, Founder & Head of School at Bloom KKCA Academy: Bloom Academy is a new bilingual school of innovation in Hong Kong. Designed by experienced and forward-looking educators, engineers, and entrepreneurs, this future-oriented school emphasizes positive education, project-based learning, and compassionate creativity
  • Oliver Klein, Chief Technologist at Amazon Web Services: Olivier draws on two decades of expertise in Internet technologies, IT architectures, and software engineering to help organizations of all sizes, from start-ups to large enterprises, apply cloud computing technologies, solve business problems, and create innovative and data-driven business models. Olivier has been working for AWS across Asia-Pacific and Europe to help customers implement architectural best practices and be successful in their digital transformation journey. He also advises how emerging technologies in the Artificial Intelligence (AI), ML, robotics, and IoT space can help create new products, make existing processes more efficient, and leverage new engagement channels for end-consumers. Prior to his AWS time, Olivier ran the digital product strategy for an American multinational publishing and education company across Asia and led engineering and R&D efforts to build a virtualized web service platform for a Luxembourgish Internet Service Provider pre-cloud era. Olivier earned a bachelor of science with a major in Computer Science from the University of Applied Sciences Trier and a masters degree in Software Engineering from the National University of Singapore
  • Willy Kwong, Executive Director at A Plastic Ocean Foundation: Willy is the executive director of the A Plastic Ocean Foundation and a co-chair of the Resolve Foundation, he has more than a decade of NGO management and advocacy experience under his belt, and was named an Asia Green Warrior by conscious living festival Green Is the New Black in 2018. Former regional director of The Jane Goodall Institute HK, and the curator of award-winning exhibition, Becoming Jane: Inspiring A Shared Planet. The CloseSTEMGab initiative is a charitable initiative as part of A Plastic Ocean Foundation to provide equal learning access to low-income children so as to fully realize their potential, as well as inviting them to live sustainably. The service is free of charge for children.
