Shifting Global Clout: Hong Kong’s Role in the New Global Dynamics

權勢流轉中的力量:重現香港韌力

In an era defined by shifting power balances and geopolitical fragmentation, global trade and investment flows are facing unprecedented disruption. The prolonged U.S.–China trade tensions, supply chain reconfigurations, and rising regional conflicts—such as those in Eastern Euro-Asia and the Middle East—have significantly challenged the multilateral order that once anchored international economic cooperation.

Within this complex landscape, Hong Kong stands at a critical intersection. Positioned between East and West, and backed by world-class infrastructure and legal reliability, the city remains a vital access point for Swiss–Sino trade, European capital seeking Asian exposure, and Asian families seeking restructured outbound partnerships. For Switzerland—renowned for precision industries, sustainable innovation, and family enterprise—Hong Kong continues to serve as a trusted platform to engage the Greater Bay Area and the wider Asian economy.

The St. Gallen Symposium Hong Kong–GBA Forum 2025 returns this September as a flagship Swiss-Sino dialogue on regional leadership, technology industry insights, and cross-border trade, capital investment and innovation, hosted by the St. Gallen Symposium Alumni Hong Kong Chapter, with the support by Invest Hong Kong, The UBS Group and Consulate General of Switzerland in Hong Kong SAR and Macau. The Forum this year sets out to examine these realities under the theme: “Shifting Global Clout: Hong Kong’s Role in a Changing World.”

Through curated keynote sessions and intergenerational dialogues, we explore:

  1. How global power shifts are redefining capital flows and private market strategies in Asia;
  2. How Swiss and European businesses can partner more effectively with Chinese counterparts via Hong Kong;
  3. And how next-generation leaders from industrial family businesses, venture networks, and policy communities can build resilient, cross-border frameworks for collaboration and reinvention.

By gathering family offices, investors, entrepreneurs and decision-makers, the Forum offers not just commentary—but a rare platform for action—in navigating an increasingly fragmented yet interconnected world.

2025 Highlights:

  • “St. Gallen Day of Breakthrough” – a curated roadshow featuring high-growth Swiss and European tech ventures pitching to 30+ Asian investors, family offices, and venture builders.
  • Keynote Speakers from Switzerland, Hong Kong, and China across capital market, policies, and technology innovation.
  • Leadership dialogues on Greater Bay Area, Swiss–China investment corridors, and Hong Kong.
  • Networking Reception hosted in the venue of UBS for industry leaders, investors and innovators connectivity and network building.
