Each cheese or biltong pairing is explained and presented, enhancing the experience and allowing you to get the most from the pairing. The package also includes a quiz and prizes given away on the day.
On the night you can look forward to the following pairing menu:
1. De Grendel Cap Classique Brut 2017 & Brie
The softer texture of triple-cream cheeses like Brie demands something sharp and acidic to cut through the fat. The high acid and pleasantly stinging bubbles combine with Brie’s thick creaminess in a contrast that is very satisfying. Plus, that brioche flavor you get in traditional method sparklers adds a tasty bit of toastiness.
2. Spioenkop 1900 Sauvignon Blanc 2017 & Goat Cheese
While they’re earthy and tart, most goat cheeses are a bit of a blank slate, so the citrus and mineral notes found in Sauvignon Blanc bring out the wonderful nutty and herbal flavors that can be found in the cheese. The acidity is also a great way to cut through the heaviness of the goat cheese.
3. Pella Malbec 2018 & Gouda
The combination of Gouda’s nutty flavors and Malbec’s velvety fruit is the sort of pairing that just about anyone can enjoy. Both the wine and the cheese are flavorful and aromatic without being overpowering, and the result is a complementary combo of complex flavors.
4. Lammershoek Innocent Pinotage 2018 & Freshly cut Beef Biltong
Pinotage like Biltong, is uniquely South African, so we love to pair them. A shorter drying out period with freshly cut biltong results in a pleasantly succulent, flavourful and juicier meat with a complex taste, perfectly complemented by the fruitier notes of this Pinotage.
5. Erasmus Family Grenache 2019 & Kudu Biltong
The perfect wine pairing for game has equal boldness and character, good depth of flavour and, of course, those low tannins. The kudu is an antelope native to Africa. These animals have free-range of the savannah, and are similar to venison (deer) in taste. These animals are naturally lean in fat and our sliced kudu biltong is perfect for any game or meat lover.
6. Swerwer Shiraz 2019 & Dorewors
Droëwors is a Southern African snack food, based on the traditional, coriander-seed spiced boerewors sausage. It is usually made as a dunwors rather than dikwors, as the thinner sausage dries quicker and is thus, less likely to spoil before it can be preserved. Droewors is generally quite a fatty snack, which works well with the rich tannins in the and acidity in the Shiraz. The mild flavour of the wors complements the earthy & fruity flavours of the wine.
