Solo Verse and Prose Speaking (online) workshop for Secondary school teachers - an interactive online workshop to share best practices in this field

Key learning outcomes: teachers will be given an array of classroom activities and techniques they can use to help prepare their students for the Hong Kong Speech Festival, or other speaking competitions.
- Teaching Verse and Prose Speaking techniques
- Devices for communication of the mood and meaning of the texts
- Understanding the shape and rhythm of the texts
- How to create vocal characterisation
- Exploration of texts
- Observation of some filmed performances
- Expectations of Adjudicators
For the best experience, attendees should have:
- a computer or ipad style device (a phone will also work)
- stable internet access
- a headset with microphone
- a webcam
Teachers will receive Zoom meeting ID by email three days prior to the online workshop. Please join the zoom meeting with your school name, followed by your registered name.
Handout and Certificate of attendance (CPD certificate):
Handout will be sent to all teachers via email three days before the workshop. An attendance certificate will be issued on the condition that participants are actively engaging in all aspects of the workshop, which includes participating in discussions, engaging with peers, has their camera on and makes meaningful contributions to the workshop. Participants cannot share a device. The certificate will be mailed to your school (within Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR) after the workshop; e-certificate will be sent to those outside of Hong Kong.
Trainer:
Mary Ann Tear is a senior examiner for Trinity College London and a teacher trainer. She is also a member on the judging panel for the ESU Public Speaking Competition, a British Federation adjudicator, choreographer, director and Performing Arts lecturer. Mary Ann is now based in Singapore as a Performing Arts and Communication Skills consultant but she also continues to train, teach, adjudicate and examine.
