Soft acrobatics introduction and session breakdown, Session date/time, Further practice

About this event

This is our 4th Soft Acrobatics Pop-Up class of the year! It is an all-levels class, and great for practitioners who are considering our 8-week Soft Acrobatics Foundations course.

Session date/time/location

Wednesday September 22 12pm-2pm

All sessions are at On Lan Centre, 11-15 On Lan Street, Central.

Total cost:

HKD350 for a single session drop in

*Please note, if you have an existing package with us, that your credits are still valid for classes at Sensory Fight Club. For this particular session, please purchase a separate drop in ticket. Thank you!

2-hour session breakdown:

  • *60 minutes foundational patterns and ground work
  • *60 minutes personal acrobatic skill work + airtrack

You don’t need any prerequisites for this class, but we will be moving on the studio floor on all fours, which means a certain level of comfort and confidence of coordinating and moving across the ground is useful.

I teach in a beginner-friendly style, always making options available and scaling for the individual as much as is possible in a group setting. On the other hand if you want to explore really foundational classes, I recommend looking for our mobility + movement, gymnastic ring strength and Katonah Yoga classes.

In the first part of the class we mainly cover the 3 bases of softacrobatics:

rolling | spins + sweeps | all 4s movements - this is basic acrobatic vocabulary that serves as foundation to build soft acrobatic flows and phrases.

Then we move on to the second tier of softacrobatics, splitting into groups for individual skill work:

jumping skills | bridging | arm balancing - we will each set one to three main goals for ourselves and work on those. Here we function as a group and help each other progress.

About Aaron Martin

Aaron is a Hong Kong-based movement teacher and performer. He is a self-taught parkour athlete and acrobat with an interest in teaching quality movement patterns to people of all walks of life.

Through his focus on teaching pedagogy and movement learning he draws from a multitude of disciplines and experiences to help his students find balance between strength, flexibility and coordination.

What is Soft Acrobatics?

Soft acrobatics is a non-competitive floor-based acrobatic skill practice, with focus on soft and sustainable execution.

Inspiration is drawn from many different disciplines like Capoeira, Contemporary Dance, Martial Arts Tricking, Breakdance, Arm Balancing, and Parkour

Classes are usually split into 2 parts:

  • flow work, which is the weaving together of basic patterns into unique flows and sequences
  • skill work, which is the practice of more advanced acrobatic skills.

One person’s skill work, can be another person’s flow work, depending on skill.

Unlike other forms of acrobatic practice, soft acrobatics has a uniquely low entrance barrier and is therefore easy to start with, because we use all the beginner moves of other styles.

That means the beginnings of softacrobatics may require less strength and flexibility than a yoga class - no matter your level, there is always a sequence that you can turn into your own, personal flow.

And at the same time, the skill ceiling is uniquely high, which means getting bored is practically impossible as you can advance to flips and jumping acrobatics if you wish.

Continued practice

If you are interested in continuing your soft acrobatics practice, we encourage you to consider enrolling in our 8-week foundational soft acrobatics course. Dates in 2021 are:

Fridays 6pm-7.15pm

June 11-July 30, August 20-October 8, Nov 5-Dec 24.

COVID sensibilities

Please wear a mask (properly, covering nose, mouth and chin entirely), for the entire duration of class.

We will provide everyone with clean, disposable masks, if needed.

Please note that we will strictly enforce and uphold mask wearing rules. We reserve the right to ask any student who doesn't comply with this, to leave the class, with no refunds.
