With just 2% of our sampled corporate population identifying as coming from a low socio-economic background, there is a dire need to examine social mobility in India more closely. Despite rapid economic growth—India’s GDP has more than doubled in the last decade—the ability for individuals to move upward socio-economically remains severely limited. Ranked 76th out of 82 countries in the Global Social Mobility Index, India faces entrenched barriers including widening income inequality, caste-based occupational segregation, and significant rural-urban disparities in access to education and jobs. Our Social Mobility in India Deep Dive sheds light on these critical challenges and highlights pathways that organisations can adopt to foster a more inclusive and equitable society.
Community Business’s "Social Mobility in Asia: Advocacy, Collaboration & Action" initiative shines a critical light on these barriers and potential enablers specific to India. This virtual event on 25 September (3-4 pm India time) will launch the India Deep Dive report, featuring an exploration of the research findings and expert perspectives on the unique socio-economic dynamics impacting social mobility. Through insightful fireside chat, we aim explore the current situation and drive actionable strategies that advance equity, inclusion, and opportunity for all.
Join us as we deepen our understanding of how social mobility shapes lives and livelihoods in India, and collaborate on the pathways to unlock potential and create fairer, more inclusive workplaces and communities.
