Event Overview

The ‘sharing economy’ is an economic model in which individuals utilise common assets or joint services to optimise resources as a collaborative whole. Whether the exchange is complimentary or paid, demand for ‘sharing economy’ has experienced phenomenal growth in recent years and is altering the way business is conducted. The real estate industry is one of the sectors that has been greatly affected by this economic model. With Airbnb revolutionising the hospitality sector completely, another wave of change is yet to come with co-working space for commercial tenants and co-living options for the residential leasing market. To prepare and embrace for this new reform, the presentation focuses on two major real estate businesses currently being transformed by the sharing economy. Namely, the burgeoning co-working and co-living markets in Hong Kong. How does the ‘sharing economy’ disrupt the ‘traditional’ supply and demand for office and residential markets? What business and investment opportunities will emerge from this change? Following the introduction of the ‘sharing economy’ in Hong Kong, market reaction and overview of existing real estate options will be presented, thereafter a summary of real estate opportunities that has developed due to Hong Kong’s distinctly dynamic environment.
