About this event
In this fascinating, educational and enjoyable sake and glass tasting, RIEDEL will demonstrate the relationship between the shape of a glass and our perception and enjoyment of sake.
In the recent years Sake has become the darling of sommeliers in top restaurants around the world. The ongoing boom and appreciation of Japanese cuisine worldwide has strengthened its popularity, prompting demand for a suitable glass.
With that in mind, industry leading Austrian glassware manufacturer RIEDEL debuted their unique Daiginjo sake glass in 1999, following a few years of tastings and workshops with Japanese sake breweries. The glass's elegant egg-shaped vessel featured a convex rim to highlight the sake's fruity and floral bouquet, while bringing sweetness, acidity and bitterness into balance.
Last year the company has added a new glass to their sake collection - this time developed specifically for Junmai style of sake. The diamond-shaped base of this glass is designed to control the flow of sake on the tongue and to highlight Junmai's velvety texture.
Join us for this workshop in order to try RIEDEL's signature sake glasses against each other and a few more traditional sake vessels and discover how shape affects our perceptions of aroma and flavor.
Each participant will be gifted a set of one Daiginjo and one Junmai glass at the end of the workshop (normally retailing for $450 HKD).
