The aftermath of the Tai Po fire tragedy deeply affects everyone in our city. Even those not directly among the victims find it difficult to rest easy when faced with the brokenness and pain of families living on the same land. It is as if the entire city is shrouded in a heavy collective trauma. In this difficult time, we need each other more than ever.

This weekend, we will hold a Sacred Pipe Ceremony to hold a sacred space, a resting place for the unspeakable grief. We gather the collective voices of mourning, blessing and prayers for community rebuilding and sending up to the Father Sky and the Great Spirit. May the Divine bless our city and the heroes who sacrificed themselves in this incident.

🦅 Sacred Pipe / Chanunpa Culture (Native American Tradition)

In the cultural and spiritual lives of many Indigenous tribes, the Sacred Pipe is a bridge for communicating with the spirit world. The people believe that the smoke generated by the burning of sacred herbs in the Pipe carries their prayers directly to the "Creator" and the Great Spirit.

It is also a sacred covenant and a symbol of peace. Historically, when concluding negotiations, treaties, and agreements between different tribes or nations, those praying would speak or pray with sincerity, respect, and the solemnity of keeping promises. The Community Sacred Pipe Ceremony is also used for communities to gather during major events, offering mutual companionship, seeking blessings, healing, and guidance.
