Event overview


What makes a successful development? Who is involved and what are their expectations? Will the building stand the test of time? In order to answer these questions and provide a successful development strategy, you need to understand the fundamentals of the development process, from the initial concept through to deciding to build the scheme.

Property Development Strategies will deal with all the factors that impact on the decision making process, including site appraisal, planning, development appraisal and development finance.

Learning objectives


  • Identify the fundamentals of the development process and the valuation of development land
  • Manage the process, up to the start of construction, either as an agent, other advisor or developer
  • Recognise the different issues at the various stages of the development management process.
  • Assess different methods of valuing development land and when to use the types of appraisals.
  • Recognise the different methodologies for the assessment of both project and financial risk.
  • Analyse types of development finance and how they can be accounted for in the valuation.

Mr Johnny Siu

Mr Siu has been a chartered general practice surveyor for 27 years and he is now a senior professional in the civil services. He has been serving both the RICS and HKIS as an APC assessor since 1993. Before joining the HKSAR Government, Mr. Siu was an executive in HSBC group and had worked in Marketing Department, Wayfoong Property Limited and the Group Head Property Office, HSBC for over 13 years. Part time lecturing is also Mr Siu’s favorite and he has been a part-time lecturer in universities for 20 years.

Mr Siu is the co-author of the book, Valuation of Development Land in Hong Kong (2001 edition). This book has been used as a standard text book for surveying students in the universities and is the only valuation text book written by a practicing surveyor who is still handling property valuations daily. Apart from property profession, Mr Siu has a personal pursuit in the telecommunication industry and is now a member of the Radio Spectrum and Technical Standards Advisory Committee to advise the Director-General of Communications, OFCA on a number of telecommunication matters.

  • Upon completion of this event, a CPD certificate will be granted. A payment receipt along with the CPD certificate will be sent to you by email with 10 business days after the training.
