Theme

Resilient and sustainable: Putting the green revolution at the forefront of our future

Overview

In the past year the catastrophic effects of climate change have zeroed into focus – raising the question of not just how cities can lower emissions, but how communities should prepare for the challenges and uncertainties ahead.

The death and devastation caused by both Typhoon Mangkhut in Asia and the California Wildfires in the USA have served as a wakeup call to policymakers across the world. The need to lower emissions and take a more aggressive shift towards sustainability has never been clearer – but it is also evident that whatever steps are taken, darker days are ahead which demand strong leadership and a resilient response.

Hong Kong has the opportunity to navigate the region through the challenges ahead, both as the example of a forward-thinking, sustainable city – and as an enterprising, connected hub leading the green finance movement.
The conference will begin by framing the regional and global dilemma, before examining sensible city planning for professionals and policymakers, and exploring how Hong Kong can place itself at the heart of the green revolution. Participants will come away with a better understanding of ESG (environmental, social and corporate governance), fresh perspectives on progressive investment trends, such as climate bonds – and the inspiration to help forge the resilient city future generations demand and deserve.

Topics to be covered

  • Grasping the challenges presented by climate change, in APAC, and beyond
  • Developing more resilient cities for the future
  • The role of green finance in the climate battle
  • Putting Hong Kong at the heart of the green revolution
