Event description
Join us for an exciting talk on Hong Kong's reptiles and amphibians !

About this Event

Have you ever spotted a snake in the wild, or listened to the symphony of frogs? Hong Kong has in fact a swarming community of reptiles and amphibians, and you would notice as soon as you pay attention. In this talk , we would go on a virtual tour of our local community of reptiles and amphibians. After a brief introduction of the two big classes of herps, you will be introduced to some common species as well as unique species found in our locality. Finally, we will explore the challenges they are facing in Hong Kong, and what we could do to help conserve them. Hopefully, by the end of this session, we could debunk a few stereotypes of these frequently misunderstood creatures, and you would begin to feel a sense of connection to them, and maybe even fall in love with them, just as I did. Hope to see you there!

Our speaker: Samuel Ho

Samuel Ho is currently an undergraduate in Biology at the University of Queensland, majoring in ecology. He has an interest in wildlife since young and has developed a special focus on herpetofauna in recent years. Over the past years, he had participated in field surveying, both local and overseas, including Thailand and Madagascar. He aspires to contribute to the conservation of herpetofauna through bridging research and education to the wider public, alongside his visual stories as a wildlife photographer and scientific knowledge as he develops further into the field. Samuel is an award-winning wildlife photographer since high-school, and his photos were exhibited and used by local NGOs to promote biodiversity. He aims to utilize photography as a way of communication to the public, about the beauty of biodiversity, even amidst the concrete jungle in Hong Kong.
