Do you know the <A HREF="http://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/article/1455098/hong-kong-has-higher-background-radiation-level-tokyo-say-scientists" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">radioactivity in Hong Kong is 5 times higher than Japan</A>? Do you want to find out the level of radiation in your living environment? The level of background radiation in Hong Kong is comparatively high, but what’s the reason? Radiation and its environmental and health effects are issues which are fraught with deep-seated controversy. Come to our workshop to work together with <A HREF="https://blog.safecast.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Safecast</A>, a volunteer-based citizen science group based in Japan, to map the radiation in Hong Kong and demonstrate the most accurate and credible data possible.
In this workshop, you will:

<LI>Learn about the basic knowledge of radiation</LI>
<LI>Build a radiation detective device “Kgeigie”</LI>
<LI>Go out to do radiation measurements in the area around PMQ</LI>

Location:  Unit H508, 5/F, Hollywood side, PMQ, No. 35 Aberdeen Street, Central (<A HREF="http://www.pmq.org.hk/the-site/location-transportation/?lang=en" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Directions</A>) Language: English Duration: approximate 4.5 hours Age range: 10 years old or above Fee: HKD 480/ person
Class Rundown:
•The workshop will have 3 sessions [Each session is 1.5 hours]
◦Session A: Participants will learn about the basic knowledge of radiation
◦Session B: Learn how to build the Kgeigie geiger counter
◦Session C: Data-gathering with Bgeigie [a portable geiger counter]
•After each session is completed the groups will rotate and join the next session. 
 
** important note: the workshop DOES NOT INCLUDE the purchases of Kgeigie and Bgeigie devices, participants cannot bring the devices back home after the workshop.
