Event Details

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Bread Runner!

Inspired by the TEDxHappy Valley event on April 13, 2013, Radical Resilience Week is an opportunity to involve and inspire a larger Hong Kong community to embrace their own version of radical resilience. Radical Resilience is about actively choosing how we react in any given situation, and especially those circumstances that shake us to our core. In the words of Dr. Viktor E Frankl, "When we no longer able to change a situation, we are the challenged to change ourselves".

The bread run is designed to engage individual and pairs of volunteers in the nightly collection of surplus fresh bread. Each bread runner selects 1-2 stores to visit at closing time to pick up surplus breads and then delivers them to a designated FHK drop-off point. All bread run donations are redistributed amongst the FHK charity network the following morning.

We are looking for individuals and pairs of volunteers to become bread runners for the evening. Get involved and ask your friends, family and work colleagues to be part of the Bread Run. As a Bread Runner you need to be:

  • Over 16 years old (or be accompanied by an adult)
  • Contactable via email and mobile before and on the night

Simply follow the steps below:

  • Select the store/s of your choice
  • Note the pick-up time, store address and store phone number
  • Register as an individual or with a friend (you only need to regsiter one ticket)
  • Print a copy of the Eventbrite confirmation email and PDF ticket (sent to you by email after registration)
  • 1 day before the Bread Run, FHK will send you a confirmation email reconfirming your pick-up

  1. On the evening of the collection, call your allocated store 15 mins before closing time to confirm your pick-up
  2. Arrive at your allocated store(s) at closing time or up to 15 mins afterwards with your own carrier bags
  3. Show your PDF ticket to the store manager
  4. Collect the donation receipt, double check the number of pieces and sign to confirm receipt
  5. Pack the donated surplus breads into your carrier bags
  6. Bring the bread to FHK destinated drop-off point

Feeding Hong Kong arranges for all fresh bread donations to be redistributed first thing the following morning via the FHK Charity Network.  Our charity partners include shelters for the homeless, migrant worker and women’s refuges, senior day centres, refugee and new immigrant support centres, children's homes and other non-profit programmes that provide food to the hungry.

Short on time or not free on our Bread Run night? Here are some other ways you can get involved:

Q: What if I'm under 16 years old?

A: You can still be part of the Bread Run, but you will need to be with an adult who has registered above.

Q: The store I want is sold out!

A: Please email us on with the subject: BREAD RUN WAITING LIST. In the body of the email let us know your name and email address and we'll include you in the mailing list for future Bread Runs.

Q: Where is the drop off point?

A: There are 2 drop off points: the FHK Yau Tong Foodbank, Unit 806, Block A1, Yau Tong Industrial City, 17-25 Ko Fai Road, Yau Tong, Kowloon and Flight Centre, 8 Sing Woo Road, Happy Valley, Hong Kong

Q: What if I have a problem on the night?

A: If you are running late, please ensure you call the store directly. The staff will wait a maximum of 15mins after closing. For any other problems with your collection, please call the FHK Bread Run Coordinator on 2205 6568.

Q: What if the store informs me there is no bread to collect?

A: Please note that all donations are subject to availability on the night. We rarely have an occasion where there is no donation to collect but if this is the case, please thank the Maxim's and Arome Bakery store for their time and inform the Bread Run Coordinator.
