The case study is your opportunity to demonstrate your range of skills and competencies through an important project, and is a key component of your APC submission. A well-structured and written submission will clearly demonstrate your professionalism, appreciation of RICS standards and readiness for membership. It is also a major part of the final assessment, and with the right tools it can be approached with confidence.
You will learn about how to choose a suitable case study, structure the report, what to include and how to write
in the RICS way. You will also gain an appreciation of the role of the case study in the final assessment of your membership credentials. By the end of the course, attendees will be able to:
• Understand the role of the case study in the overall assessment
• Identify the areas the assessors will be looking for in a case study
• Lay out a structure for the case study report
• Articulate the key attributes of a project likely to make a good topic for a case study
• Write in the RICS way
The course will consist of the following elements:
• What role does the case study play in the assessment?
• What are the key components?
• What are the assessors looking for?
• What projects make good subjects?
• How should the report be structured?
The course will cover all these areas and will enable the delegates to select and structure their case study
including the following key sections:
• Issues and challenges
• Solutions considered
• Solution chosen
• Lessons learnt
The course will also cover common pitfalls and how to avoid them.
About the trainer
Having worked in the real estate industry for more than 30 years in areas of property management, maintenance, building surveying and project management in various organizations, Gary is currently the General Manager of Shui On Properties Management Limited. He has served on the Councils of Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS), Surveyors Registration Board (SRB), Hong Kong Institute of Facility Management (HKIFM) and Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies (HKAPMC) for some years, and is currently the Vice President of HKAPMC and HKIFM, and was Honorary Treasurer of SRB (2012-2015), Honorary Treasurer of HKIS (2011-2013) and the Chairman (2009-2011) of HKIS PFMD.
