Share Opportunities and challenges for entrepreneurs in the world of retail (Apr 2018)

Event Details

Hong Kong has one of the world’s most unique retail environments with its rapid turnover rate, skyrocketing rents, high population density, and relative reluctance to embrace ecommerce. All these aspects converge to create a very unique business landscape for entrepreneurs and property professionals alike. As an entrepreneur for over 10 years, chartered surveyor and property professional, our presenting speaker Mr Baldwin Ko will share his views with us on:

  • New opportunities for retail, F&B businesses and shopping centres
  • Greater Bay Area opportunities
  • Reliance on Mainland Chinese tourism
  • Balance between online and offline

Following the presentation, there will be a panel discussion featuring various industry experts (details TBA).

Note: 1.5 CPD hours (this seminar will be conducted in Cantonese)

About the speaker

Baldwin Ko is the Retail Business Development Director, Hong Kong & Macao, of L'Oréal Hong Kong Limited. After graduating with a master’s degree in real estate in Sydney, Australia, Baldwin returned to Hong Kong in 1996 where he worked in commercial real estate for over 10 years at Swire Properties and AIG Global Real Estate Investment respectively. As an aspiring entrepreneur, Baldwin began exploring the chocolate business towards the end of his stint at AIG, and was ultimately granted the license to create a new chocolate brand under the agnès b. umbrella in 2007. The first agnès b. DÉLICES shop opened that same year with Baldwin at the helm and the brand quickly expanded over the next five years to include 23 chocolate boutiques in Hong Kong and Taipei.

In 2013, Baldwin moved on from agnès b. DÉLICES to found his own company, MRB Concepts, a dining and retail concept creator and operator, franchiser and franchisee of F&B brands, and OEM of customised F&B gifts. Since its establishment, the company has launched a series of successful retail concepts and brands including Italian dessert bar, 2/3 Dolci; premium food truck concept, The Lobintan; Japanese bakery-café, Bread & Bistro; as well as the Hong Kong’s first Vivienne Westwood Café. He was the managing director of MRB Group Limited, a dining and retail concept creator and operator with outlets across Hong Kong before joining L'Oréal Hong Kong Limited.
