Event description

Description

Join us for an entertaining evening presented by local historian, Jason Wordie on the topic of Opium, a historical overview.

Opium and its derivative drugs have played a role in Hong Kong since before the colony was established.

In this lecture we will discuss and evaluate the role played by the opium trade in the establishment of the British colony, its economic importance in the nineteenth century, gradual moves towards control prohibition, and the striking economic, legal and moral parallels that exist between the nineteenth century opium trade and the tobacco industry in the twenty-first century.

This talk will be the third of a series of Hong Kong Historial talks by Jason. Please do join us, even if you did not attend the previous two-talks!

The talk will be held in a private room at Cafe Siam, LKF with Thai snack food and 2-hours of unlimited red & white wine, Singha beer and soft drinks included in the price.

Come join us for an entertaining and enriching evening!
