線上分享 Online Sharing｜一人之境：仰望光的方向 Solitude’s Horizon: Reorienting Light

近年國際天文高速發展，從可回收火箭到深空探測，再到對系外行星生命跡象的追尋，天文從專門領域走入大眾視線，成為全球科研與商業競賽的重要舞台。相較之下，香港的天文發展則經歷轉折，2018年，本地唯一提供天文主修的學府取消課程，留下一段空白與惋惜。直至近月，研究投資重啟，香港大學成立天文與天體物理研究所，為本地天文科研注入動能，也象徵城市對宇宙的探索正悄悄回歸。

在這個重新出發的時刻，我們或許更需要回望：天文學在香港可如何紮根？而又是甚麼令一位末代天文系畢業生仍然相信星空值得追尋？

這次網上分享中，我們邀請到香港大學末代天文系主修畢業生 Wing，以其獨特的視角與親身經驗，講述在香港追尋天文的困境，同時帶領觀眾踏入他與天文結緣的軌跡。Wing將簡介「希望的引力」展覽中多件作品所涉及的天文概念，並探討星體運動、光的延遲與星的生命周期等天文現象，如何拉近我們與希望之間的距離。

以星為引，以光為喻，我們誠邀你一同思索：在充滿眩光與迷霧的城市之中，我們還能否找到屬於自己的那片夜空？又如何在日常軌道中重新校準方向，回到希望所在之處？

In recent years, astronomy has taken off worldwide. Reusable rockets, deep-space missions and the search for life beyond our solar system have brought the cosmos into the public spotlight, turning astronomy into both a scientific frontier and a global arena for innovation. Hong Kong’s path, however, has been more complicated. When the city’s only astronomy major was closed in 2018, it left a noticeable void. Only recently has momentum returned with the University of Hong Kong establishing the Hong Kong Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics, signalling a renewed commitment to cosmic exploration.

As we begin this new chapter, it feels timely to ask: How might astronomy truly take root in Hong Kong? And what compels one of the final graduates of its discontinued programme to continue believing the stars are worth chasing?

In this online talk, we welcome Wing, a graduate from one of the last cohorts of astronomy majors at HKU, who will reflect on the challenges of pursuing astronomy in a city saturated with light pollution and limited research pathways. He will also introduce the astronomical ideas woven into the exhibition ‘The Orbit of Hope’, exploring how stellar motion, the delay of light and the life cycle of stars can illuminate our relationship with hope itself.

Guided by starlights and held by reflection, we invite you to join us thinking: In a city flooded with glare and uncertainty, can we still find our own patch of night sky? And how do we recalibrate our everyday orbit to realign ourselves towards where hope resides?
