Description

Managing People in Times of Social Transformation: An International and Cross Regional Border Perspective

The debate surrounding the management of social transformation is receiving growing discourse among scholars, business executives, industrialists and public policy makers at large. Much of this relates to the prior parlance stemming from globalisation and the shift or desire for emerging economies to accelerate modernisation. As this occurs, managing people on an international scale and across borders is becoming an increasingly more difficult task. For instance, social transformation surrounding China has meant a plethora of human resource movement both within the Mainland, in greater China and beyond the region. Effectively managing the movement of people, managing workers and integrating employees represents a significant challenge.

In response, Hang Seng Management College invite you to this uniquely created workshop that aims to provide a platform for mid-level managers from public and private sector institutions to learn more about strategic issues and challenges of managing people during such social transformation. The emphasis will be on illustrating best practice, so that delegates can learn more about the key issues and are then suitably positioned to influence others within their own institution, and thus cascade such values or benefits to the wider community per se.

The workshop will draw on a number of pertinent themes relating to managing people during times of social transformation. It will be of particular value to individuals in business or public policy in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Mainland China (Greater China as a whole) as well as practitioners in other nations that share an interest in the effect of social transformation and who grapple with such international staffing integration. Each day of the workshop will consist of several independent, yet related themes which will be facilitated by several panel experts.

Each day of the workshop will include an introduction relating to the subject and its significance, a directional session relating to the scope of the topic in the future, a case study and an implementation practical. Interval refreshments and a networking lunch will also be provided for all delegates as well as a gala dinner. The conference will be hosted at HSMC, Hang Shin Link, Siu Lek Yuen, Shatin, Hong Kong. Non-local participants are suggested to stay at the Regal Riverside Hotel where transportation to and from campus will be provided every morning and evening respectively.

This will be a non-profit seeking event and we welcome a donation of HK$888 to cover the four lunches, the gala dinner and the light interval refreshments. HSMC also operates a hardship fund for whoever lack the budget to participate. For further details and enrolment, please contact (852) 3963 5551 or email sbus@hsmc.edu.hk.
