Course 1. AN INTRODUCTION TO INTERNATIONAL COURSE FOR NON-SUICIDAL SELF-INJURY

The 4-hours International Course for Non-Suicidal Self-Injury course is for any interested adult.
You will learn how to assist a person who is engaging in self-injury.

This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.

WHAT THE COURSE COVERS

The term ‘non-suicidal self-injury’ (NSSI) describes a behaviour where a person deliberately or purposefully hurts themselves.
It is used to refer to self-injury that is not intended to result in death.

When we use the term ‘self-injury’ we are specifically excluding painful or damaging behaviours that are socially accepted or ‘sanctioned’ such as tattooing, piercing or other forms of body art, and cultural practices involving injury.

This course gives participants an opportunity to learn how to help someone who is engaging in self-injury.
This is an education course, to learn how to give first aid to others, and is not a therapy or support group.

THE COURSE WILL TEACH YOU

WHY PEOPLE ENGAGE IN SELF-INJURY

HOW TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT THEIR SELF-INJURY

HOW TO HELP THE PERSON STAY SAFE

HOW TO CONNECT SOMEONE TO APPROPRIATE PROFESSIONAL HELP

HOW TO ASSESS FOR SUICIDAL THOUGHTS AND BEHAVIOURS

Course 2. AN INTRODUCTION TO INTERNATIONAL COURSE FOR THE SUICIDAL PERSON

The 4-hours International Course for the Suicidal Person course is for any interested adult.
You will learn the skills and acquire the knowledge required to safely have a conversation with a suicidal person.

This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals.

WHAT THE COURSE COVERS

At the completion of the course you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to safely have a conversation with a suicidal person. This is not a postvention course and is not recommended for individuals recently bereaved by suicide.

The International Course for the Suicidal Person course is not a therapy or a support group and it is important that people undertaking the course are feeling relatively robust when they undertake it. Specific postvention support services can be found on specialist websites.

THE COURSE WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO

Identify warning signs for suicide

Confidently support a person in crisis
