Event description

Description

Scholars will embark on adventures across Hong Kong and experience the fun and hard work of being a Marine Biologist! Scholars will explore Hong Kong and its surrounding waters, collect plant and animal species, use the microscopes in the Marine Science Center, and create field journals! Field trips to surrounding islands are included.

Marine Biologist FISH Course is now enrolling for scholars ages 5-14 to discover more about marine habitats and being a scientist in Hong Kong from July 8-12, 2019 from 9am-4pm. Scholars age 5-8 are recommended to have taken our Hatchling course first to understand the material in this course better. Class size is limited and subject to first come first serve basis.

Fully Immersive Scholar’s Holiday (F.I.S.H.) courses are taught using THS’s active learning approaches to real-world issues, allowing your scholar to have fun while developing a 360 view of the topic. Make the most out of holiday breaks while immersed in an inclusive and supportive educational environment.

A bit about the Marine Biologist FISH Crew:

Sarah Taylor runs the Marine Science Center at THS taking care of the animals, working with Hong Kong NGOs to further marine conservation and teaching marine sciences, ecology, and activism. She is from a beach town in North Carolina where she ran a marine science summer camp and worked with local schools. Her favorite sea animal is the cuttlefish because of their high intelligence and personality she's seen while diving.

Maxine Cutracci is the THS Marine Science Specialist. She takes care of animals husbandry and teaches marine biology classes. Before living in Hong Kong she worked as a Marine Biologist in the Maldives doing research on sea turtles and developing projects with a local school on the island. Her favorite marine animals are corals because they are so colorful and... they don't look like animals at all!
