All levels welcome, no prior weaving knowledge necessary. Everything you need to know will be covered in the course.
Weaving is such a wonderful and therapeutic form of making.
It's also a HUGE trend in the crafting world right now and we just can't get enough of it! It's so addictive, as there are so many different ways you can play with texture and colour resulting in the creation of your own wall hanging.
During this special workshop series we will be teaching you how to:
- Design, calculate and implement your own tapestry weave design.
- Warp up a tapestry loom & most importantly how to get the tension right.
- Make tassles to add into your wall hanging and to create a fringe finish.
- Participants will be introduced to NEW techniques to further expand your weaving knowledge.
- Rya Knots & Reverse Rya Knots
- Changing colours & creating shapes within your piece.
- Interlocking colours
- Creating curves
- Rya loops
- Soumak weaving & alternative methods
- Weave patterns using warp arrangement
- Finally, how to finish off your weave art, taking it off the loom and hanging it onto a wooden branch for hanging on the wall.
You will be encouraged to experiment with colours and textures using a selection of yarns and roving to create your piece.
After 4 weeks, Participants will take home one beautifully finished woven wall hanging! End product will measure up to 30''x15'' (12'' tassel length)
This workshop will be held at our studio, located in Chai Wan.
