Abstract

The management of personal data privacy, be it for HK’s own PCPO, EU’s GDPR, or some other data privacy regulations, is often requirements-oriented and fragmented.  An organization may establish a policy to tackle a particular requirement, but it lacks a systematic approach to ensure the policy is carried through.  For example, an organization may spend a lot of effort to come up with a personal data register, but fail to ensure the register is reviewed and updated.  A privacy policy may be written and released on the corporate website, but there isn’t an owner of this policy to make sure the policy is continually suitable.  Data privacy is an essential element of an organization’s governance and hence ought to be managed strategically and systematically like it does for quality, health & safety, and social responsibility, etc.  Many international standards have been released by ISO and other standard organizations to address data privacy management.  Among them, one is even written with GDPR in mind.  The speaker will introduce, compare and contrast these standards so the audience may review and decide when to adopt them to manage their data privacy risks.
