Hong Kong Marine Reef Fish Biodiversity
Overview
Hong Kong SAR (hereafter, "Hong Kong") may be a small city, but more than 25% of the marine species documented in the whole of China can be found in local waters. Among this incredible diversity are reef fishes, and more than 400 species are known to occur along our coastlines. The 114°E Hong Kong Reef Fish Survey has been documenting the reef fish diversity since 2014, discovering more than 50 species new to local records and identifying areas important for conservation. Joined by hundreds of volunteers over the years, the project aims to not only inform the prioritisation of marine conservation measures, but to also bring our underwater neighbours closer to Hong Kong's citizens and tell the story of Hong Kong's marine biodiversity.
