Hong Kong Cleanup x Ocean Conservancy Clean Swell Challenge

Yes, the problem of ocean plastic pollution is massive. More than 11 million metric tons of plastics flow into our ocean every year (that's more than a garbage truck's worth per minute!), and plastics are ending up everywhere from the deepest ocean trenches to the most remote Arctic ice sheets.  It's critical that we cut back on single-use plastics and improve waste collection and recycling systems everywhere.

But make no mistake, we need cleanups, too. In fact, scientific research shows that low-cost, effective cleanups will be critical to meeting plastic pollution reduction goals.

EVENT DETAILS:

Two cleanups in one! The first is 0830-1230, whilst second is 1240-1735. Are you up for the full day challenge, or happy to just help out for half a day. 

Both cleanups will be held on Southern Lamma Island, registration is compulsory for each event. 

The first, as mentioned above, will be from 0830 to 1230. Everyone who is registered will need to be at Pier #4, Central Piers at 0820 to register and catch the 8:35am ferry to SokKwuWan. You will be met at the pier in central to ensure you take the right ferry. 

We will arrive at SoKwuWan at 9:10am where we will meet at the end of the pier for a quick toilet break and to collect our bags, gloves and other items prior to making way to the beach we will be cleaning, about a 15-20min walk on a concrete path.  

When we arrive at the beach we will have a short safety briefing, issue equipment and split into teams for the event.  Then we will clean the beach from 0945 to 1120. At 1120-1140 we will gather for a group photo, tally our total and award the mystery PRIZES for "mystery competition". After this we will make our way back to SoKwuWan village arriving at 12:10 in time to grab a drink, have some snacks or have a short break before the ferry departs back to central at 12:40. 

OR EVEN BETTER STAY ON AND JOIN PART TWO!

The second cleanup group need to be at Central Pier #4 at 11:30am (Lamma Island - See link 

https://goo.gl/maps/3yU7ASSg8u48emaj8) to take the 11:50am ferry on the LEFT HAND SIDE to SoKwuWan (DO NOT TAKE THE FERRY ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE TO YUNG SHUE WAN) once you arrive at SoKwuWan you will be met at the end of the pier.

You will arrive at SoKwuWan at 12:30pm where we will meet at the end of the pier for a quick toilet break and to collect our bags, gloves and other items prior to making way to the beach we will be cleaning, about a 15-20min walk on a concrete path.  

When we arrive at the beach we will have a short safety briefing, issue equipment and split into teams for the event.  Then we will clean the beach from 1:00pm to 2:45pm. At 2:45pm we will gather for a group photo, tally our total and award the mystery PRIZES for "mystery competition". After this we will make our way back to SoKwuWan village arriving at 3:30pm in time to grab a drink, have some snacks or have a short break before the ferry departs back to central at 4:05pm.
