HKWC Presents: Writing the City
Event Information
Description
How do you write about Hong Kong? How do you write about any city? Join the Hong Kong Writers Circle for a special seminar, Writing the City, with Xu Xi, author of nine books of fiction and essys, editor or co-editor of three anthologoeis of Hong Kong writing in English (including the latest, The Queen of Statue Square) and writer-in-residence and programme leader for City University's MFA programme.
This workshop will provide practical advice for how to write about a city in a way that is authentic, lively and interesting. Learn how to stay clear of cliches and cliched observations (trust us - we all know Hong Kong is humid!) and pick up some tips on how to showcase Hong Kong in your writing. A Q&A session will follow Xu Xi's presentation.
This workshop is open to both members and non-members and is particuarly helpful for those writers wishing to submit a story for this year's HKWC anthology. No pre-work is required. However, writers who are working on their drafts for submission are encouraged to bring specific questions about their work in progress.
