HKIBIM Networking Event - FULL

Guest Speaker: Mr. Peter Barker

Peter is Managing Director of BIM Academy which was established by Northumbria University and Ryder Architecture in 2010 to support industry in BIM adoption in the built environment. BIM Academy is a fusion of practical industry knowledge and academic expertise and delivers research and development, education and consultancy. Peter is responsible for business development and enterprise at BIM Academy, working closely with Professors Steve Lockley, David Greenwood and the academic team. Peter has a construction industry background as an Architectural Director at Ryder Architecture and was responsible for BIM research and development within the practice from 2006. Peter also has over 25 years practical experience in the delivery of projects in a number of sectors including process engineering, leisure and education. BIM Academy is closely linked with the UK Government BIM Task Group  and other development bodies and has been instrumental in the design and authoring of National BIM Library in the UK, as well as leading BIM implementation on a number of projects in the UK. BIM Academy also  supports the delivery of the MSc programme in Design Management with BIM at Northumbria University.

The Hong Kong Institute of Building Information Modelling (HKIBIM)


Hong Kong Institute of Building Information Modelling (HKIBIM) was established in Jan 2009. 

The objects of the Institute are: 

  • To uphold and advance the standard of competence for the profession
  • To promote the interests and recognition of its members within the industry and community; 

The Institute works on the behalf of its members: 

  • To promote and advance the general education, understanding, appreciation and interest of and in building information modelling management; 
  • To foster general awareness, understanding and concerted efforts in the community towards the advancement of the Objects and the issues thereof; 
  • To establish and advance standards of building information management practice in the industry. 
  • To establish links with relevant institutes of tertiary education, Government Bureaus/Departments, Statutory bodies and other organizations; 
  • To research, facilitate and promote the means of better management of building information for improving communication, co-ordination, management, productivity, delivery time, cost, and quality throughout the whole building life cycle; 
  • To provide guidance on careers in building information management profession.
