About this event

Hong Kong’s historic Fanling golf course houses three 18-hole courses, the Old Course, New Course and Eden Course. The oldest of its three was built in 1911, it is over 110 years old with spectacular trees, unique biodiversity and home to up to 460 years-old graves, and it is China’s oldest golf course. Fanling Golf Course has been home for Hong Kong Open tournament since 1959. In 2020, it was awarded Audubon Golf Sanctuary status as an environmentally-friendly and managed world-class golf course. The Old Course, 30 hectares of the 172-hectare golf site, is now subject to ongoing CEDD/ government plans for housing development, to convert it into public housing estate with 150m tall towers and a population of 33,600.

The tour will be led by Timothy Peirson-Smith. Tim graduated with a BSc. in Natural Environmental Science from the University of Sheffield and started a career studying the environmental impact for mega projects, such as the Channel Tunnel Rail Link in the UK. He then moved to Hong Kong working on the environmental impact of major infrastructure projects. Tim also works in public affairs, government relations and is the Vice Chairman of The Royal Geographical Society - Hong Kong.

Tim will lead our members around the course on golf buggies, introducing the Old Course’s environment, and the rare wild life and vegetation it holds, as well as the grade 2 and 3 conservation sites, bee hives, and butterfly garden. Refreshment will be served following the tour and guests can relax and enjoy the picturesque view at the end of the tour.
