TheHong KongUniversityof Science & Technology (Guangzhou)

Our journey begins at HKUST (Guangzhou) - a carbon-neutral, zero-water-waste campus master planned by KPF and engineered by ARUP. Located in Nansha, this forward-thinking institution integrates smart electric vehicle mobility, climate-responsive design, and a dynamic central space that encourages cross-disciplinary innovation. Led by members of the project team, this guided tour will showcase how the campus has re-imagined education through a sustainable, tech-forward lens.

Next, we visit CUHK (Shenzhen), master planned by Wang Weijen Architecture (WWJ ARCH) as a seamless integration of nature and built form. Designed around a lush green axis, this academic setting includes courtyards, lakeside structures, and multi-layered architectural highlights. Signature features such as the Teaching Courtyard Complex, Central Quad, and Tower Plaza merge indoor and outdoor learning spaces while offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and cityscapes.

About the Speakers

Florence Chan AIA RIBA HKIA LEED AP
Director, KPF

As a Director of KPF, Florence Chan was fully involved in the design and project management of the HKUST (Guangzhou) Campus.Florenceis a registered architect inNew YorkStateandHong Kong, a LEED AP and a board member of the CTBUH Hong Kong Chapter. She received her Bachelor of Social Science (Architectural Studies) from CUHK and a Master’s in Architecture from the Harvard GSD.

Wang Weijen AIA FHKIA HKIUD
Professor, HKU
Director, Wang Weijen Architecture

Integrating architecture with nature and cultural landscapes, Wang's practice and research responds to high-density urban contexts, rural conservation, and the need to create sustainable environments. His design projects include schools, university campuses and community buildings, and have received awards from the HKIA, HKIUD, AIA Hong Kong, AR and WA.

He was the 2023 Howard Freeman Visiting Professor at UC Berkeley, the curator of the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale for the Hong Kong Exhibition and for the 2007 Hong Kong Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism / Architecture. Focusing on typologies of Chinese architecture and cities as well as on Hong Kong’s urban / rural spaces, Wang's published books include Refabricating City: A Reflection; Regenerating Patio: Studies of Macao’s Historical Urban Fabric; Kuk Po Vision: An Account of the Architectural Environment in a Hong Kong Village.

Ge-bing Wang
Associate Director, Arup

Currently serving as the leader of Arup’s MEP team inSouth China, Ge-bing Wang has over 26 years of experience in HVAC design and project management. She has been responsible for the MEP design of various types of buildings, including super high-rise offices, hotels, commercial buildings, apartments, exhibition centers and stadiums.

Ge-Bing specializes in HVAC infrastructure for complex civic buildings and has participated in and managed the implementation of numerous projects, including the Qianhai District Cooling System, the OPPO (Binhai Bay) Intelligent Manufacturing Center, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), Pengcheng Laboratory, Canton Tower and the Beijing CCTV Headquarters.

Yong-Hui Yu
Associate and Guangzhou Office Leader, Arup

Since joining Arup in 2013, Yong-hui Yu has overseen the concept, schematic, and preliminary design of numerous high-rise building projects, and spearheaded the implementation of digital technology inSouth China. Yong-hui has two decades of experience in structural design and project management, covering a diverse range of building types, including civic architecture, offices, residential complexes, hotels, and industrial facilities.

Notable projects under his leadership include Canton Tower and the Window of Guangzhou and his solid theoretical expertise and extensive practical experience have led to remarkable achievements in the engineering field, including being awarded Second Prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Competition.

Ambroise d’Hauteville
APAC Director, Steelcase Learning

Ambroise brings nearly 25 years of international experience and local expertise to his role at Steelcase - a global leader in the design, research and manufacturing of office, educational and healthcare furniture for more than a century. He has been driving the company's Learning Segment in Asia for 7 years and his diverse background spans North Africa, Paris, and China, where he has honed his skills in managing multicultural teams, Global Account Management, as well as launching new product lines.
