Event overview

This course is suitable for anyone who would like to develop and improve their commercial residential property valuation skills. If you are working towards your Assessment Professional Competence (APC), then this course will provide you with valuable knowledge and skills to assist you in developing your competency in this area.

This course will develop your knowledge and understanding of the property valuation techniques that are fundamental to providing appropriate valuation advice. Attendees will consider basic valuation techniques and principles including: current rental and capital valuation methods; an overview of the Red Book and other valuation standards; and the key principles of valuing in an uncertain market. A course workbook and lunch and refreshments will be provided.

By the end of the course, attendees will be able to:

• Understand common approaches to commercial valuation and key investment appraisal principles
• Understand how to apply the appropriate valuation methodology in different contexts and approaches
to analysing risk
• Interpret client’s requirements, valuation standards and the professional requirements of valuers
• Understand the key market factors which influence value

About the trainer

Mr Johnny Siu FRICS, FHKIS MBA(HKU) has been a chartered general practice surveyor for 27 years and he is now a senior professional in the civil services. He has been serving both the RICS and HKIS as an APC assessor since 1993. Before joining the HKSAR Government. Mr. Siu was an executive in HSBC group and had worked in Marketing Department, Wayfoong Property Limited and the Group Head Property Office, HSBC for over 13 years. Part time lecturing is also Mr Siu’s favorite and he has been a part-time lecturer in various universities for nearly 20 years.

Mr Siu is the co-author of the book, Valuation of Development Land in Hong Kong (2001 edition). This book has been used as a standard text book for surveying students in the universities and is the only valuation text book written by a practicing surveyor who is still handling property valuations daily. Apart from property profession, Mr Siu has a personal pursuit in the telecommunication industry and is now a member of the Radio Spectrum and Technical Standards Advisory Committee to advise the Director-General of Communications, OFCA on a number of telecommunication matters.
